Description
Ficus macrophylla, commonly known as the Moreton Bay Fig, is a majestic, evergreen tree native to eastern Australia. It is known for its large, glossy dark green leaves, spreading canopy, and impressive buttress roots. The tree also produces small fig-like fruit that attracts birds and wildlife.
While it can grow up to 15–35 meters tall and 20–30 meters wide in the ground, Ficus macrophylla is also well-suited to growing in large pots or being trained as a bonsai, where its growth is naturally limited and its sculptural form can be appreciated on a smaller scale. It thrives in full sun, adapts to a range of soil types, and is drought-tolerant once established.
