Description
Bougainvillea Bambino® 'Panda' is a compact and distinctive bougainvillea with bright white flower bracts and beautifully variegated foliage edged in white. The combination of white flowers and white-edged leaves gives this variety a particularly clean, fresh appearance in the garden. Growing to approximately 1m high and 1m wide, 'Panda' is much easier to fit into smaller spaces than many traditional bougainvilleas. It is an excellent choice for pots, courtyards, patios, balconies, garden beds and feature planting. Mature height: approximately 1m Mature width: approximately 1m Position: Full sun to part shade Flower colour: White Foliage: Green with white margins Habit: Compact and bushy The variegated foliage provides interest even between flowering periods, while the bright white bracts create a strong contrast against the green leaves. It can be particularly effective against darker backgrounds or alongside plants with deeper green or burgundy foliage. For the best flowering, plant in a sunny, well-drained position. Although 'Panda' will tolerate some part shade, strong light encourages better growth and flowering. Once established, it is relatively drought tolerant, although container-grown plants will require more regular watering than those planted into the garden. Avoid constantly wet soil. A light prune after flowering can be used to maintain the compact shape and encourage fresh growth. It can be trained or shaped as required, making it useful for topiary-style planting and informal hedging as well as a simple feature shrub. If you're looking for something a little different from the usual purple or pink bougainvilleas, Bambino 'Panda' combines white flowers with variegated foliage for a much lighter and more contemporary look.
