Senecio haworthii – 80mm
Senecio haworthii, commonly known as the Woolly Senecio, is a striking succulent prized for its unusual silver-white appearance. Its upright cylindrical leaves are covered with fine white hairs, creating a soft, almost frosted appearance.
This distinctive texture makes Senecio haworthii particularly effective when combined with darker green succulents or plants with smooth foliage. It also works beautifully alongside other silver and grey-leaved plants.
The compact 80mm size makes it an excellent addition to a succulent collection, decorative pot or sunny windowsill.
Light Requirements
Senecio haworthii enjoys bright light and plenty of sunlight. Good light helps maintain its compact upright form and attractive silver colouring.
In Brisbane, it can perform well outdoors in a sunny, well-drained position. If the plant has been grown under shade, introduce it to direct sunlight gradually.
A bright indoor position may also work, provided there is enough natural light.
Watering
This is a drought-tolerant succulent and should be allowed to dry between waterings.
When the soil is dry, water thoroughly and allow the excess water to drain away. Avoid frequent watering or leaving the roots sitting in moisture.
During winter or periods of slower growth, reduce watering.
Soil and Drainage
Use a free-draining cactus and succulent mix. The plant is particularly sensitive to prolonged wet conditions, so excellent drainage is essential.
The white hairs are part of the plant’s natural appearance, so avoid unnecessarily handling the foliage.
